It is very concerning to learn that the performance of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption has dropped drastically over the last 3 years. While DVAC had been filing around 281 regular case FIRs in 2019 in Tamil Nadu, the numbers have dropped drastically to around 130 to 140 in the years 2022 and 2023 and to 72 in the current year thus far. More importantly, the Chennai units of DVAC have filed only 4 regular cases in the current year while it was filing around 55 regular FIRs in the year 2019. More importantly, it is shocking to learn that the 8 Chennai units of DVAC together have not even filed a single FIR from June 2024 till date.

I would like to remind you that DVAC’s annual budget is around Rs. 80 to 90 Crores and around Rs. 55 Crores out of this is spent on salaries alone. Our tax money seems to be going down the drain. Bribery and Corruption has been the order of the day in many Government Departments of Tamil Nadu and the general public is put to an huge ordeal to access Government services and schemes. The common public is dependent on DVAC for action against the Corrupt. However, the abysmal performance of DVAC does not lend any confidence. Years of delay in enquiry by DVAC on corruption complaints, years of delay by the Government in awarding permission to DVAC to even file an FIR for carrying out investigation only reminds us of the maxim ‘Justice delayed is Justice denied’. Such delay and withholding of permissions seems to be a direct effort by the Tamil Nadu Government and DVAC to save the Corrupt involved in swindling of crores of taxpayer’s money.

Therefore, I am sending this petition for you to wake up, act and get DVAC to file FIRs against Bribery and Corruption in Tamil Nadu. We expect a strong reply from you through your actions of filing FIRs and carrying out prosecution against the Corrupt.
